Combining traditional use, with business intelligence
GIS or Geospatial Mapping is far wider than just printing large maps or displaying transportation and travel routes – it can also visualize, manage and analyse any business asset (employees, customers, facilities) and provide a solution that has helped many organisations overcome their operational challenges to deliver improved profitability. Business intelligence data and analysis is becoming increasingly important for executives and financial managers who comb statistical data. All of these things can be visualized by wide format printing, to enable basic or sophisticated questions to be answered on how to improve businesses workflow, management, and ROI
So, whether your use is traditional or business intelligence based, the printing requirement is usually for an intense usage of colour, true greys, a mixture of line drawings and sophisticated rendering, high colour quality and accuracy, often mixing of raster imaging. Due to the diverse use of these prints, a varied selection of media is often required, and with industries covering a wide spectrum of requiring indoor/outdoor use the printer must be capable of printing with UV stabilised, water resistant ink

Which Designjet printers are most popular within the GIS Transport & Tourism sector?
The most popular Designjet printers selected by GIS, Transport and Tourism are the T120, T520, T790ps, T1300ps, T2530, Z2100 and Z3200. For example, remote geological surveys require something practical with a small footprint so the entry level Designjet T120 with its flexible Wi-Fi capability enables the user to print from virtually anywhere and have the ability to switch between A4-A1 printing. The T520 is the natural progression from the T120 (larger in size but ideal for small workgroups, where they need colour/photo printing without rendering or accurate colour matching).
The T790ps is ideal for small-medium teams, T1300 for larger teams due to its dual roll feed and smart switching capabilities, while the T2530 eMFP is utilised for it’s dual print and scan facility. Moving away from the Technical ‘T’ series Designjets, those who are interested in indoor/outdoor printing with UV stability and waterproof inks, where colour is of paramount importance we guide towards the Graphic Arts ‘Z’ series Designjets, with their embedded spectrophotometers and array of colour applications. The Z2100 and Z3200 are the two most popular models (Z2100 for its price and increased capabilities over the Technical printers, and the Z3200 for its increased capabilities over the Z2100 without significant differentials in price).
Typical print outputs and applictions include Dynamic maps, on-demand creation of maps (thematic, cadastral maps), urban, thematic and demographic maps, land use and urban growth planning, emergency management, land records management, oil spill contingency planning, strategic environmental databases, minerals management, coastal zone management, vegetation mapping, operations (management, logistics), Engineering – utility design, Marketing – demographic research, Finance and compliance – asset management and regulations, Land Planning, Geo-marketing, Geo-engineering
